HAVING done the US and Australia in the past four months, Shabazz Palaces are back in the UK and are still out in the road promoting last year’s smash Hip-Hop record, Black Up.
IF YOU haven’t heard of them already, then allow us to make an introduction.
Coming out of the US, Shabazz Palaces are a Seattle-based hip-hop collective, made up of Ishmael Butler aka ‘Palaceer Lazaro’ (once Butterfly of Grammy award winning jazz-rap group Digable Planets) and multi-instrumentalist Tendai Maraire, son of the late great Mbira master Dumisani Maraire.
IN HIS last post, The Peoples Hub’s Henry Makiwa reviewed the latest Chimurenga Renaissance album, riZe Vadzimu riZe. Today, we premiere the group’s latest video, The G.O.O.D is So Bad and share an account that demonstrates the intimate spiritual inspirations behind Chimurenga Renaissance’s frontman, Tendai “Baba” Maraire.
CHIMURENGA Renaissance’s first mainstream album, riZe VadZimu riZe, got a massive lift as the band became the Most Added Band on the reputed US-based CMJ music charts just a week after its launch.
